Question 1
A potential client requests information on coaching. Describe, using examples, how you would respond. Consider the what, how and why of aspects such as – Information provided, needs assessments tools, coaching agreement. Keep in mind the LCA Code of Conduct.
Coaching is a partnership between a coach and a client. In this relationship, the coach works with the client by asking relevant and thought-provoking questions and using tools and processes to assist the client in realizing and enhancing their personal and professional potential. Coaches partner the client by helping them to recognize their current reality and looking at options to help them move forward (Allen,2016).
Coaching focuses on helping the client to identify a direction that they perceive as valuable and meaningful which will ultimately lead them to their desired goal. The coach empowers the client along the way so they may realize their own answers. The aim is to accelerate the client’s journey towards the goal they wish to achieve in the future at a phase determined by the client.
Coaching differs from mentoring and counseling or other similar services. In coaching the client sets the agenda they wish to discuss and take personal ownership and accountability for actionable outcomes with supportive encouragement from their coach. The documents that are used by us for the enhancement of coaching practices are the client information sheet. The next tool that will be used by us is the brainstorming sheet, which is used to brainstorm the ideas. (Refer to Appendix 1 for this section.)
Question 2
Describe how you would create a safe and supportive coaching environment. Include the following:
For the conducive coaching session, the environment needs to be free from distractions irrespective of whether the session is held face to face, in a group session, over the phone or via Skype. The coach needs to check in with the client to ensure the client is comfortable and has the necessary tools for the session. The coach also needs to discuss any possible interruptions or distraction that may occur during the session with the client. The concept of Trust must be there between the coach and client is must in the coaching sessions.
For creating trust and confidence coach has to bring determination in a client at the very first meeting by sharing of experiences that create the positive impact on the client (Hosseini,2016). The coach must possess the quality of patience as adults take the longer time in the learning process, because of pre-learning beliefs, so the coach has to accept them in that way by respecting their culture and values. The coach can also use nonverbal communication gestures like maintaining eye contact with warmth and concern.
Providing gestures which will grab the attention of client and make the coaching material more interesting. The statement given by the Tibetan Art of living depicts that the mental energy will be converted into words, which means that the coach has the ability to understand the thoughts of the client, by converting them in the way of response that is attained from the client.
Question 3
Discuss the GROW Model in terms of its underlying principles and effectiveness. Use examples and demonstrate your knowledge of the following:
The GROW model is the simple model which is used for setting of goal and problem-solving. It was developed in the UK and is extensively used in the corporate coaching’s. GROW model stands for (G) Goals, (R) Reality, (O) Options and (W) Will. These four stages of the model create the awareness and understanding of the individual (The GROW Model, 2018).
We will discuss an example to understand the concept of GROW model in the coaching sessions. This example helps the executive to attain the goal of team leader. Rami is the entry-level executive in an organization, but she wants to be the team leader. To becoming the team leader is her Goal which is termed as a SMART goal. For the attainment of Goal, the coach has to initially identify the skills that are needed for the role of team leader. For that we have to do the brainstorming of the skills of Rami. As a coach, after brainstorming of her skills we will identify that she is lacking in some skills that are needed as the team leader.
She needs more experience in terms of managing people and dealing with overseas customers. For getting the experiences she needs to lead the small team, and as her coach or manager, we will offer her a small project (Griffiths, 2015). Finally, the role of Coach is to establish the will, so that she can undertake the small project with due responsibility. After three or four months as a coach, we will review her progress, that how much efforts she has provided as a team leader. So that we will offer the higher position to her as the team leader of the large team that helps her in attainment of goals.
Question 4
Discuss the statement” a coaching relationship is based on communication. Use examples and demonstrate your knowledge of the following:
Effective coaches are the one who is self-motivated for their goals in terms of improvement of practices, and can openly answer questions by evaluating the performance of the team. In order to improve the practices of others, coaches have the power of convincing them, for making changes of betterment (Serrat2017) and all this will be attained by the use of effective communication.
Coaches can only do this by the use of non-judgmental tone, and the use of open-ended questions that help in conversation and reflection. Effective coaches can ask the right questions and can exactly understand the root cause. For example, the birth attendant may skip measuring temperature, not because she doesn't know how to do, but at that time she is not having the working thermometer. For the solution to this problem, a coach has to witness three factors like:
Your observation+ your thoughts+ your questions. I thought + I am concerned + I am curious to do this. A good coach also knows how to communicate by way of listening and speaking with others. In this example by using open-ended questions coach creates an opportunity for a Birth attendant to reflect the practice. Secondly, the birth attendant clearly states goals and objectives by discussion and at last by the observation the coach will understand the problem and helps her in bringing confidence and motivation for improvement.

Keeping the client record system helps in improving the session continuity, by the facilitation of planning, assessment and progress evaluation. In terms of collecting and storing the information of clients the legal requirements need to be considered for the collection of client information (how coaches should manage record keeping - The Performance Solution. (2018). Collecting information of customers is considered as the good practice as it can helps in follow ups of the clients as and when required.
