Steve Jobs is considered as a famous American Information Technology entrepreneur. He was a great inventor as well as a leader also. He was the co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of the famous information technology organization known as Apple Inc. He described himself as an innovative entrepreneur who believes only in perfection. His innovative ideas and managing style make him different from the other entrepreneurs. His creativity came in front of the people when he designed his own version of classic video game pong (Lakin, 2015). This makes him very famous. His innovative style appreciated by everyone. In this paper, we will study the role of Steve jobs as a change management leader, decision-maker, or consensus-building. After studying this, we are able to analyze the leadership efficiency of Steve Jobs.
Leader Role in Management of Change
Steve job play an important change management role in the organization. Change refer to any alteration in an environment of the organization. How is it possible that an organization like Apple passed from near-oblivion during the 1990s to becoming one of the successful stories of the 21st century during a time when the most disruptive, and dramatic changes in IT history were taking place? The main reason and the answer to this question are Steve Jobs. He makes it possible with his visionary style of leadership. Management of change done by Steve jobs by adopting personalized leadership style. With the help of personalized leadership, he primarily works for the interests of human resources. By doing this, he is able to minimize the resistance of employees towards change. He takes every action in favor of the employees which motivated them in a larger context. Through this, he is able to create his image in the mind of employees, and they follow him without raising any question.
Problem Management and Decision Making
Steve Jobs play a vital role in solving different problems and taking effective decisions. Problem management activities mainly required to recognize the root cause of problem and to determine the resolution to those problems. When he officially came back to Apple before 16 years ago, it marked a moment of rebirth for the Apple organization. Within the eight years after 1997, he was known as the mantle of interim CEO (Rajaraman, 2014). All this is possible due to his innovative decision-making capacity. He takes various innovative and risky decisions to save Apple from oblivion. He developed strategies to bridge the gap between practice and theory when it came to strategy. Making a smart decision is very necessary than who makes the decision. Steve Jobs decision to chase the prize of the first saleable PC created his own industry. All this is possible due to his decision making ability. For identifying the existing problems in the organization he only uses the transparent communication strategy. Communication is the efficient way of identifying any problem. With the help of this strategy, he directly places open-ended questions in front of employees so that their problem can be recognized. His decision-making ability can recognize through the success of Apple Inc. Before Steve Jobs came back to Apple, it was dealing with laptops, Macintosh desktops, and different servers (Johnston, 2016). He came with the innovative idea of iPhone which changes the way of communication in human beings. During his starting time, he made various poor decisions. But later, he learned lots through his poor decisions. As he got older, his decision-making capacity also enhance. After left Apple, he started his own organization named NeXT, which was not successful. But in 1996, it was purchased by Apple. After then he takes various good decision and came out with the iPod, iMac, and iPhone which achieve a lot of success in the existing market.
Consensus Building and Negotiation
Negotiation and Consensus Building play an important role in the life of Steve Jobs. He utilizes various negotiation tactics to settle his differences with the people. He believes in fair negotiation through which he is able to see the mutual benefit of himself as well as employees. Negotiation is the key way to implement successful change in the organization. To negotiate with his employees and subordinates, he prepares different plans which ultimately related to their mutual goal. Through this, he is able to conduct effective negotiation and able to reach a final agreement. His negotiation capacity can be seen through his leadership style. Leadership cannot be possible without negotiation. It is necessary for leaders to negotiate with subordinates (Robinson, 2013). Negotiation is the tool with which he takes his final decision. Steve Jobs was mainly focusing on interests of employees rather than his own position. This will enable him to see the perspectives of employees which can be utilized efficiently in decision making. Consensus building is mainly a process of preparing a proposal, questions and making discussion. This was efficiently done by Steve Jobs while taking an important decision.

After studying all this, it can be concluded that Steve Jobs was an unconventional leader. His management style makes him different from the others. The management style of Steve Jobs was not completely based on the stuff of university textbooks (D. B., 2015). But he was known for his consensus-building and consultative leadership approach. If I am the owner of any organization, I will also apply the leadership approach of Steve Jobs. While managing the team, I will adopt high maintenance approach and demand excellence work from my staff with high motivation. Negotiation and open communication is the key to success, and I will follow the same to bring transparency in my organization. I will focus more on creating an environment of excellence so that every task can be performed in an efficient manner. Profitability of the organization depends largely on the leadership style. Through this, the organization can successfully establish itself in the market. Steve Jobs focused on this concept which makes him successful and highly recognized.
